The Desert Tortoise in Bronze

“The Desert Tortoise in Bronze”

The desert tortoise occurs in a variety of different habitats within the Mohave and Sonoran Deserts, from sandy flats to rocky foothills, river valleys and canyons. This small, bronze desert tortoise statue appears to be some sort of rope holder for crowd control at the Hoover Dam. I figure most people don’t even know it’s there.

Our friend was giving us a tour of the Hoover Dam area. Suddenly she stopped when she realized I wasn’t behind them any longer. She found me squatted down in front of this little Desert Tortoise statue near the Memorial Star Map floor. She said of all the times she had been there she never even noticed these little statues existed.

Tip of the day: Look all around your surroundings no matter where are, you might just find a little gem of a photo waiting for you.
